The Venezuelan state of Lara is not only a geographical gem, but also home to one of the most exceptional coffees in the world. This coffee is a reflection of the rich history, culture, and nature that define this region.

Coffee from Lara State

Lara coffee boasts an unmistakable flavor profile. Thanks to the high altitude, volcanic soil, and specific microclimate in the Andes Mountains, the coffee beans acquire a unique character. Typically, it's a coffee with delicate acidity, a medium body, and sweet notes of honey, caramel, or dried fruit. The aroma is rich, with hints of chocolate and nuts, giving each cup depth and sophistication.

Local farmers, often several generations of coffee growers, consider coffee their life's mission. Cultivation often takes place using traditional methods, without the intensive use of chemicals, ensuring not only high quality but also environmental friendliness.

History of Lara State

Lara State, located in northwestern Venezuela, is named after General Jacinto Lara, a hero of the Venezuelan War of Independence. This region is rich in cultural traditions and natural beauty, including vast dry savannas, deep canyons, and charming mountains.

Lara has a long history connected to indigenous communities that lived there before the arrival of Spanish colonizers. Local tribes, such as the Caquetíos, left their mark in the form of pottery and ritual traditions. Later, the area became a significant center of Spanish colonization, contributing to the development of agriculture, including coffee cultivation.

Cultural and natural treasures

The city of Barquisimeto, the capital of Lara state, is known as the "city of sunsets" due to its spectacular sunsets. It is also a center for Venezuelan folk music and art. Lara's culture is rich in festivities, such as the Divina Pastora procession, which attracts thousands of pilgrims.

Lara is also a place where nature and humanity harmoniously blend. The coffee plantations are surrounded by mountain peaks and tropical forests, which provide a home to many species of birds and other animals. The coffee from Lara literally smells and tastes of this unique landscape.

This particular lot comes from the Rivero family farm, which owns a 20-hectare plot in the Humocaro Alto region with more than 55,000 coffee bushes. Due to the hilly terrain, all harvesting is done manually. Thanks to maximum control over the picking of only ripe cherries and manual sorting during processing, we can enjoy truly excellent coffee quality. After harvesting, the cherries are sorted in floating tanks, where unripe cherries, twigs and leaves are removed. Subsequently, the coffee beans are peeled and sent to fermentation tanks to remove all the pulp. The final stage is drying on raised beds for about 20 days.
