The producer of this great decaf is farmer Haile Gebre, who moved with his family to the Guji area in 2001, where he inherited a piece of land on which he established the first coffee farm and processing station, supplying cherries from more than 320 neighboring growers.
However, this dream came true after several pivotal moments in Hail's life. When he was 10 years old, feudal lords took away his family's land where they grew coffee, forcing them to move away. He felt so betrayed that he made it his goal to enter politics and change the way coffee farmers could grow coffee.
After three months at college, he enlisted in the Navy, where he was considered very talented and intelligent by his superiors, and thanks to this he was promoted to the Strategic Navigation Department. However, this was no challenge for Haile, and he returns to university.
Thanks to his military history and university activities, Haile was able to work at the Ministry of Land Reform and the Cooperative Institute in Awassa from 1973 to 1976. Unfortunately, his outspoken views led to him serving three years in prison.
After serving his sentence, he moved to Moscow, where he studied business management, and after 5 years, he moved to Addis Ababa in 1984, where he began teaching the subject at the university. He subsequently became governor of the Oromia region and founded the Oromia Cooperative Union - with a specific focus on coffee cooperatives.
