Marysabel Caballero and her husband Moises Herrera are second and third generation coffee farmers, and their dedication to growing premium coffee in Honduras has earned them numerous awards.

Marysabel's father, Don Fabio Caballero, inherited extensive land in the Marcala region from his father, who was one of the pioneers of coffee growing in Honduras. Marcala is located in the southeast of the country and is one of the most prestigious growing regions.

After years of poor profitability, Don Fabio decided to pass on his farms to his children, especially Marysabel and her husband Moises. Moises brought his own farms into the family business, growing their combined holdings to almost 200 hectares divided into 17 different farms.

All farms are located near their own "beneficio" (washing station) Xinacla. They collect the cherries to this central station and process them. The production of each farm is usually kept separate, but if the daily harvest is not large enough, the cherries from different farms are combined into mixtures called "Caballero". These lots are comparable in quality to the microlots from individual farms, but due to the larger volume they are more stable and more available.

The Caballero family farms are characterized by clay soil and the dominant variety grown is Catuai. In addition to it, other rare varieties such as Java, Pacamara and Geisha can be found here. The area is characterized by a humid and windy climate, with some farms being partially shaded while others are located on open slopes with moderate to steep slopes.

All procedures on the farms are carefully documented and the owners are constantly investing in new technologies and planting new varieties with the aim of constantly improving the quality of their coffee.

Marysabel and Moises have always placed an emphasis on precision and quality, which earned them 3rd place in the prestigious SCAA “Coffee of the Year” competition in 2010. They are also regular finalists in the Cup of Excellence competition, and are among the exceptional producers within their region.
